Reading your Hong Kong electricity tariff into a mining sheet
A mining spreadsheet that uses “US industrial power” will flatter almost any Hong Kong desk. Start from your own bill.
Find the effective rate
Residential statements often mix energy charge, fuel clause, and adjustments. Divide the electricity portion of the bill (not water or other services) by kWh consumed for that period. That effective HKD/kWh is what we paste into a Smart Crypto Calculator PC estimate.
Watch seasonal air-con bleed
Summer months raise household kWh even if the mining box is steady. When you argue with a roommate about “what the GPUs cost,” use the mining wattage × hours × rate — not the whole bill delta.
Blocks and thresholds
If you sit near a stepped tariff threshold, adding a second card can jump the marginal rate. Mention that in your assessment brief; the break-even call changes when the next kilowatt-hour is more expensive than the last.
Bring the latest statement page (rates section) to the session. We do not need your account number — only the published band and your calculated effective rate.
